Kickstart Football CANCER SUCKS CUP 2017
“I was really touched. When I shared my mom’s condition to my partners at KickStart Football, they immediately thought of organizing the event. When cancer strikes a family member, he or she is not the only one with the disease. It is shared by everyone in the family.” ~JB Bolaños, whose mother Paulina was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer

KickStart Football Holds the 1st Cancer Sucks Cup 2017 to Kick Cancer Out of People’s Lives. Aiming to raise funds for people battling cancer, KickStart Football is set to hold the Cancer Sucks Cup 2017 on August 19 and 26 at the Blue Pitch in Circuit, Makati City. This year’s event is co-presented by Fuda Cancer Hospital in Guangzhou, China in cooperation with Capital Sports & Events.
Sixteen (16) teams will compete with each other in the Mixed Chill division. Each team is required to have at least two female players on their roster, with at least one of them playing on the pitch at all times. Meanwhile, the Mixed Open division will field 24 teams which could compete in any combination of players.
“Supporting this event is like hitting two birds with one stone: you get to help cancer patients, and at the same time you get to promote fitness activities like football. Exercise and sporting activities help lower stress levels, detoxify the body, and promote over-all wellness. All these are very important in preventing dreaded diseases like cancer.” ~Segundo Cruz, III, Fuda Philippine Representative
The fund-raising tournament is divided into Mixed Chill and Mixed Open divisions, both following a 7-a-side format. Open to amateur players only, both categories require a minimum of seven and a maximum of 12 players per team for Mixed Chill and 15 players for Mixed Open.
“Football is the beautiful game. It becomes more beautiful, when it brings people together for a worthy cause,” says Garcia. Capital has asked their registered participating teams to join the Cancer Sucks Cup in lieu of the Capital Cup. “We’re supposed to kick for fun, but this time, we will kick for a reason.” ~Paulo Miguel Garcia, Capital Sports & Events
Fuda Cancer Hospital is a well-equipped cancer treatment center that is well-known for their minimally invasive therapies, innovative treatments and conventional methods of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery. Welcoming patients with medium or advanced cancer which is treated as a medical difficulty, Fuda adopts the latest international anticancer concept by applying its “3C+P” treatment model composed of Cryosurgical Ablation (CSA), Cancer Microvessel Intervention (CMI), Combined Immunotherapy for cancer (CIC), and Personalized therapy, as well as other new technologies. The hospital has gained a great reputation from many countries around the world, including all Southeast Asian countries, Europe, and the US, for its excellent medical service quality. Mrs. Bolanos has recently started her treatment at Fuda, and is optimistic that she will be cured of her disease, especially with the support of family and friends, including the Manila football community.
“We at KickStart Football believe that the football community should share the passion for the sport alongside a strong compassion for those who are in need.” ~Steven Silva, Celebrity Host
Other major event partners include Rucs Group of Companies (official out-of-home advertising provider), Cebu-based Rad Chameleon (official jersey partner), Xentro Malls, Timberland Philippines, and Monster Mojo, and Mizuno.
“When JB (Bolaños) shared his mom’s condition, we felt that we should do something. My mom battled cancer, too, and I know that his family’s journey in battling the Big C won’t be a walk in the park. Football is a team sport, and we are his teammates not only on pitch but, more importantly, off pitch.” ~Patrick Maramara, KickStart Football co-founders
The Cancer Sucks Cup 2017 is also supported by Black Mamba Energy Drink, Gardenia, and Hammer Nutrition Philippines. Behind-the-scenes support includes top fashion and lifestyle photographer Doc Marlon Pecjo; and KickStart Football’s friends and volunteers Nikki Mensenares, Ays Bernal, Eric Enriquez and Ad Arcolas all for creative design. The event’s marketing efforts is meantime powered by Bolaños’ own Bond Marketing Solutions and Plug & Play 360 Marketing.
“We are all here to help him kick cancer out; that’s what teammates are for.” ~Aine de Guzman-Babiera, KickStart Football co-founders

MediCard, gives advice on how to prevent dengue this rainy season
“Due to the wet season, dengue-carrying mosquitoes lurk everywhere. As of now, there’s still no vaccine for dengue fever so the best course of action is prevention. You can do this by applying mosquito repellent, removing breeding grounds of mosquitoes and most importantly, keeping the immune system strong.” ~Dr. Montoya, MediCard president and CEO
To avoid serious health complications that dengue brings, MediCard, a leading HMO provider, gives a rundown on how to prevent it this rainy season:
Eliminate the mosquito habitat. Studies show that the most common breeding ground of mosquitoes is stagnant water. That’s why the most important step in getting rid of dengue-carrying mosquitoes is eliminating possible breeding grounds. These include spare tires, uncovered buckets and cans, flower vases and pots. It is also advised to empty and cover swimming pools.
Mosquito-proof your home. Another way to prevent dengue is by making your home dengue-proof by putting screens on the doors and windows. If possible, use an air conditioner at home. Make sure you sleep indoors, in a screened or air-conditioned room or under a mosquito net. Ward off mosquitoes by growing plants like citronella, marigold, and basil or use citronella or eucalyptus oil as air freshener. If you’re using pails in the bathroom, make sure they are always covered. Also remember to unclog the gutters and
cover your trashcan because wet garbage or kitchen waste is another breeding area for mosquitoes.
Wear protective clothing. You can protect yourself from harmful mosquito bites by minimizing areas of exposed skin. Wear long sleeves, pants, and socks whenever you visit mosquito-infested places. However, avoid wearing dark clothes because they radiate heat which can attract mosquitoes.
Apply mosquito repellent. Protect yourself from mosquito bites especially when outdoors or when you go to mosquito-infested areas by applying mosquito repellent to all exposed areas of your skin. Dr. Montoya recommends that you use mosquito repellent with 10% concentration of DEET, an active ingredient that effectively deters mosquitoes.
Keep the immune system strong. The immune system fights viruses and infections, which is why it’s important to keep it strong to prevent dengue. Eat food rich in vitamin C like orange, tomatoes, papaya, broccoli, and dark leafy vegetables. “Food that is packed with vitamin C helps increase white blood cells, which protects the body from against infectious diseases and foreign invaders,” says Dr. Montoya.
Learn more on how to prevent dengue fever. MediCard has numerous free-standing clinics located in key cities nationwide that offer consultations, tests and vaccinations. Visit a MediCard clinic near you or check out www.medicardphils.com for more information.
The rainy season is definitely a refreshing respite after the blistering summer. However, it also comes with several illnesses and diseases and the most dreaded of all is dengue. Dengue is caused by a tiny bite of an infected mosquito but this little bite can cause serious health problems and could even mean death if not treated immediately.
Families savor Ulam Swap from oven roasted chicken Chooks-to-Go
Chooks-to-Go, the country’s leading roasted chicken chain with over a thousand rotisserie outlets nationwide, endeavors to help on-the-go moms by offering oven-roasted, best value chicken as the hardworking moms’ di basta-bastang ulam na uwi.
But for hardworking moms who are pressed for time to prepare the family meal, serving a delicious ulam is a challenge that they often end up buying whatever is available in food stands or whatever is left in the neighborhood eatery.
To highlight their commitment, Chooks-to-Go recently conducted “Ulam Swaps” in Caloocan City and Quezon City.
At the Quezon City Memorial Circle, Chooks-to-Go mascots Tom Crew and Chikoy approached families and groups having a midday picnic and asked if they wanted to swap their food for the healthy, juicy and delicious chicken that’s masarap kahit walang sauce.
The families were at first surprised with the ulam swap but accepted the offer, especially upon smelling the savory aroma of the oven-roasted meal.
The other ulam swap activities randomly selected customers of eateries in the target areas who surprised their families by bringing home Chooks-to-Go.
Chooks-to-Go embarked on this campaign to remind consumers, especially moms, that with Chooks-to-Go oven-roasted chicken, they can always bring home the best take-home ulam for their families to enjoy.
So moms, don’t settle for less in providing great food for the family. Head to the nearest Chooks-to-Go outlet and take home an affordable, special meal—an oven-roasted chicken that’s ‘di basta-bastang ulam na uwi.
Filipinos love to eat anytime, anywhere, but it is the tanghalian and hapunan at home that most people look forward to, especially since they get to sit down with the family to delight in their favorite ulam that is lovingly cooked by mom.

Four Tips During Disasters
In celebration of the National Disaster Consciousness Month, Solane, the country’s leading LPG solutions provider, reiterates its Dapat Lang advocacy campaign – emphasizing the importance of doing the right thing for the family, for others, and society as a whole – through these tips to ensure everyone’s safety during natural disasters:
Prepare an emergency kit
An important step in preparing for unforeseen events is having an emergency kit ready for you and your family. Basic supplies kit should include: a gallon of water per person per day for the next three days, three-day supply of food, flashlight, extra batteries, first aid kit, seven-day supply of medicines, multi-purpose tools, cell phone with chargers, family and emergency contact information, copies of personal documents, extra cash, blankets, maps of the area
Safety during fire
Some of the common causes of fire, especially during natural disasters like earthquake, are faulty electrical and gas lines. If you are caught in an establishment engulfed by fire, immediately vacate the area and ask for help. Do not hide in closets and small spaces, and remember to stay low and crawl as it is easier to breathe in a fire if you stay low.
Plan your escape routes and safe places
It’s important to have a sketch of your house so you know how to immediately get out when disaster strikes. Establish and record location of your meeting area, and be sure to practice this with your family members.
Be informed
Know the hazards within your community, and ask the local authorities about the emergency plans and warning signals. Being informed will help you gather a detailed plan for your own household.
With proper preparation, you are not only alleviating fear, anxiety, and loss but you are also reducing the impact of catastrophic disasters.
To know more about Solane, visit their new website, www.solane.com.ph, and Facebook page, www.facebook.com/solane.ph.
Natural disasters can neither be controlled nor predicted. But while they can leave catastrophic damages, everyone can take precautionary steps to mitigate its adverse effects.

Cetaphil DailyAdvance Ultra Hydrating Lotion Keep your hydration levels in check
Hydrators and moisturizers should be used in tandem for you to have healthy, hydrated, smooth and supple skin. Humectant ingredients in hydrators, like glycerin, can attract water from the surroundings by absorbing them, then binding them to the skin.
Dullness and tightness are telltale signs of dehydrated skin. When your skin is rough, dry or flaky—or all of the above, you need a moisturizer to retain your skin’s lipid barrier. The result is healthy skin that is soft and smooth.
If you only use a moisturizer, it may help ease your dry skin, but it does not address the cause of the problem and, chances are, you will need to reapply throughout the day. To make your skin truly healthy, you need to apply a hydrating lotion to plump up your cells.
By drinking water, you keep yourself hydrated. But topical hydration registers more immediate results: younger-looking skin and well-functioning skin cells.
For your daily skin routine, first, apply a hydrating lotion like Cetaphil DailyAdvance Ultra Hydrating Lotion that is clinically proven to hydrate dry skin for 24 hours. It also contains Epidermal Replenishing Complex (ERC5), a unique combination of 5 ingredients, that helps maintain healthy skin. Then, you can follow on with a moisturizer like Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion. They are non-greasy, non-comedogenic and fragrance free.
If you have oily skin, you still need a hydrator, though you may need to apply moisturizer less often.
Here are a few more tips:
- Use fragrance free, non-comedogenic products that will hydrate and moisturize your skin, but neither irritate nor clog your pores.
- Exfoliate before you hydrate and moisturize. This way, you remove the dead skin cells that may hamper your skin’s absorption.
- As much as possible, do not take hot showers or baths, because the heat reduces your skin’s moisture and protective oils.
- When the weather feels like it’s drying out your skin, have a water spritzer handy to keep your skin moist.
Cetaphil DailyAdvance Ultra Hydrating Lotion and Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion are available in drugstores, department stores and supermarkets nationwide. Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion also now comes in a new 118ml size with an SRP of Php 300.00.
Did you know that your skin can be moisturized but not properly hydrated? Hydration and moisturization are actually two different things. When you hydrate your skin, you ensure that your skin cells retain more water, resulting in healthier- and younger-looking skin. When you moisturize, you apply a protective layer on your skin that ensures that the moisture in your cells is not lost.
Coca-Cola The drink for every soldier: Filipino troops in Marawi with beverage supply
The Coca-Cola System in the Philippines takes this time to honor and salute all Filipino troops stationed in various parts of Mindanao – the men and women who have dedicated their lives to reclaim and ensure peace for our fellow Filipinos.
Coca-Cola started the delivery of beverage products to Camp Evangelista as a symbol of their support for military troops in the area. Coca-Cola was welcomed by Major General Benjamin Madrigal Jr., Division Commander of the 4th Infantry Division. Atty. Adel Tamano, Coca-Cola Philippines VP for Public Affairs and Communications and Rommin Diaz, Coca-Cola FEMSA Philippines External Communications and Sustainability Area Manager.
Starting today, August 4, Coca-Cola Philippines, bottling partner Coca-Cola FEMSA Philippines, and Coca-Cola Philippines Foundation, commit to support the Armed Forces of the Philippines by providing supplies of beverage products that will contribute to their well-being during their time of service.
The troops deployed in Marawi City will be given priority. A steady supply of beverages, which includes sports drink brand Powerade, Coca-Cola, and bottled water Wilkins Pure will be provided daily. Aside from being a beverage, bottled water is also used in the battlefield to clean and treat wounded soldiers.
Major General Benjamin Madrigal Jr., Division Commander of the 4th Infantry Division in Northern Mindanao said that the support given by companies like Coca-Cola and private individuals boosts the morale of the soldiers. While combat is the expertise of the troops, going to war and putting their lives on the line is the least of the things that they hope for.
The Coca-Cola System in the Philippines will also be extending additional support through the implementation of various sustainability programs for the Filipino troops and their families. A memorandum of agreement will be signed between the parties to formalize the support for our uniformed personnel.
Every day, countless Filipino soldiers display gallantry, courage, and true heroism in the name of duty to our country.

European fintech said Your social media info may be key for approval of loan
“With virtually everyone in the Philippines having a social media account, regardless of social status or economic standing, it is easy to see why these are great tools for mining data. And for a country that has yet to adopt a universal ID system, the basic information provided by Filipino users on these sites become extremely helpful in verifying identities, which in turn helps us to approve more loans for more people, and at faster speeds while managing risk. This, along with our use of other data sources such as from credit bureaus helps us to approve even unbanked or first-time borrowers while mitigating risk. All of these data sources are crucial because the more data we have, the better the chances of approving credit worthy individuals. At the same time, we are happy to be able to promote financial inclusion by helping the government build a comprehensive credit database, while being a responsible lender at the same time.” ~Leos Gregor, Head of Risk at Home Credit Philippines
Home Credit: gathering, matching consumers’ information on social media crucial to risk management for financing first-time borrowers
With Filipinos reported to be spending more time on social media than any other country in the world, the ability of platforms such as Facebook, Viber and Instagram to connect people and build communities is more potent than ever.
Fast loan approval
Gregor explained that Home Credit currently has one of the fastest, if not the fastest, loan processing and approval times in both the local and international finance industry, requiring only two valid IDs from the applicant. In the Philippines, where majority of applicants are approved within less than 5 minutes, Home Credit’s automated system can quickly receive a loan application form and determine if the application is approved or declined.
A portion of this time is spent doing data check on customers’ social media accounts, wherein Home Credit’s underwriting system will match information provided in the applicant’s loan application with their social media information.
Supporting financial inclusion in PH
Gregor noted that especially for first-time borrowers with no existing credit records, having social media accounts that contain accurate identification and as much relevant information as possible can increase their chances of loan approval.
Safe lender
Gregor noted that to ensure that first-time borrowers are included in the financial system in a responsible and sustainable way, Home Credit Philippines’ loan products come with “safe lending” features, such as the option to avail of insurance along with the loan; a 15 day “cooling-off” period that allows customers to pay back the full loan at no added cost within this time period; customer-friendly repayment tools meant to address various financial difficulties; and Home Credit’s “Our Commitment” that promises full transparency on loan products with no hidden charges.
Since launching in Manila in 2013, Home Credit Philippines has seen rapid growth in its business of providing in-store financing of gadgets, appliances and other goods, and has served over 1.2 million customers. Its network of retail partners now spans more than 3,000 partner stores in Metro Manila and 36 provinces nationwide, where they offer 0% interest promos and other popular products.
At the same time, a new, important role is emerging for these social media sites: as a rich source of big data, and for finance companies, a new tool for approving loans and managing risk—especially for those borrowing for the first time.
Home Credit Philippines is a consumer finance provider that promotes the principles of financial inclusion and safe lending, providing world-class financing services to qualified customers, often first-time borrowers. Company’s core business is non-cash, no-collateral instore financing of purchases for customers, seeking to buy appliances and mobile devices (computers, tablets, laptops and mobile phones) through monthly installments without a credit card. Home Credit Philippines operates in Metro Manila and in 36 Philippine provinces, with a blueprint to expand its business to other Philippines developed cities. Home Credit Philippines is headquartered in Bonifacio Global City, Metro Manila, total employee strength is over 6,700 and keeps growing, with over 1,200,000 customers and counting served. Home Credit Philippines is part of Home Credit B.V. (HCBV), an international consumer finance provider. More information on Home Credit Philippines is available at www.homecredit.ph.
'Home Credit B.V. (‘HCBV’ or 'the Group') is an international consumer finance provider with operations in 11 countries where there is high potential to grow. Isuzu Alabang First Truck of the Year Dealer Talk
“The Isuzu D-Max has been a solid contender for the TOTY-P for many years. But with the advent of the new 3.0 diesel engine with variable geometry turbocharging, it finally has a leg up on the competition. Combined with its already impressive utility and value for money, this cemented its win. That such a seemingly minor change can have such a huge effect is a testament to how closely fought these awards are, and how competitive the local truck market is at the moment. This is also a validation of our comprehensive qualitative and technical testing. The Truck of the Year award goes not to the most popular contender, but the most capable.” ~CAGI Technical Director Niky Tamayo
About 100 attendees participated in the 'Dealer Talks' which included customers, the media and the various units of Isuzu Automotive Dealerships, Inc. from Rizal, Alabang, Cavite and Pasig.
Where most awards are based on a popularity vote or a review of technical aspects or on-paper specifications, TOTY-P judging features a comprehensive scoring system refined over the past decade, encompassing both subjective (Qualitative) and objective (Technical) criteria.
With the aim to further communicate Car Awards Group, Inc.’s (CAGI) advocacy of focusing on real-world testing to determine the best vehicles in the market, the 13-year organization of motoring journalists staged the first Truck of the Year Dealer Talks at Isuzu Alabang in Muntinlupa City. Following the success of the pioneering session for the reigning Car of the Year winner Honda Civic RS Turbo recently held at Honda Cars Manila Bay in ASEANA City,sr Paranaque City, CAGI continued the momentum for the 2016 Truck of the Year winner Isuzu D-Max 4x2 3.0 LS AT.
"The procedures undertaken and the results achieved during COTY and TOTY evaluations are independent, unbiased and objectively performed. Our Firm continues to help CAGI in creating a system wherein price is incorporated in the assessment of the vehicles." ~Cedie Dimaculangan, Advisory Manager of KPMG RGM&Co.'s
Forging a partnership with Isuzu Automotive Dealership, Inc. (IADI) with the help of Isuzu Philippines Corporation, CAGI through the said talk was able to commune to about 100 participants composed mostly of sales representatives from Alabang, Rizal, Cavite and Pasig dealerships. CAGI believes that these sales agents are the front-liners that would best share the message to the consumers as they could pitch the importance of the TOTY award.
“We knew we had to make this happen since CAGI is the only organization in the country that has been conducting instrumented tests for each new vehicle every year. For us, having the privilege to be named Truck of the Year Philippines was special and we had to relay this to our customers.” ~Pam See, IADI Marketing Manager
For the first time ever, outsiders were granted access to the inner workings of Truck of the Year, from candidate selection to testing, to scoring, to awarding.
For CAGI, the D-Max’s win was earned through a cutthroat performance in their technical tests, particularly the actual on track performance, price, safety and utility. Price, for one, had Isuzu ahead of competition as the brand has always been very competitive in this area, while the same goes with the safety of their vehicles compared to other trucks in the same price range.
<L-R> Car Awards Group, Inc. (CAGI) Technical Director Mariano Tamayo; CAGI President Ronald de los Reyes; Isuzu Automotive Dealership, Inc.- Isuzu Alabang Marketing Manager Pam See; Isuzu Philippines Corporation, Corporate Communications, Yvonne Linchangco; KPMG RG. Manabat & Co. Risk and Advisory Manager Cedie Dimaculangan highlight the 2016 Truck of the Year winner Isuzu D-Max 4x2 3.0 LS AT for the dealer talks.
Handling-wise, Isuzu’s user-friendliness was an advantage as other pick-ups were stiffer. There were no sudden oversteer or understeer. During the actual test, the D-Max simply went where one wanted it to. Its remarkable steering was not as heavy as on some competitors, which allowed the D-Max to score in the upper-half of the field in terms of slalom times.
In terms of braking, the D-Max 4x2 beat out all the rest with a 30.1 meter stop from 80 km/h.
In acceleration, the D-Max, this time, made a difference. The new variable geometry turbo helped it put in a convincing stance. For the D-Max to go toe to toe with competitors was impressive as it springs from 5 km/h to 80 kmh in only 7.6 seconds while clocking in 10.6 seconds at the 0-100 benchmark—which was a big improvement over the previous generation.
For this year, CAGI is again set to finding the best in the field thru these actual instrumented tests and they will again be partnering with KPMG RG. Manabat & Co. and Carmudi Philippines with their venue being hosted by Ayala Land’s Arca South in Taguig City.
These Dealer Talks are supported by Petron Corporation and NLEX Corporation.
The Car Awards Group, Inc. has members from the following media entities: Business Mirror, Cebu Daily News, Daily Tribune, Malaya Business Insight, Manila Bulletin, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Philippine Star, The Manila Times, Bulgar, Mindanao Daily News, AQ Magazine, Autocar.Ph, C! Magazine, Motorcycle Magazine, Power Wheels Magazine, Top Gear Philippines, 2nerMagazine.com, Iginition.ph, Carmudi Magazine, InterAksyon.com, Kotse.com, ManilaSpeak.com, MotionCars.com, Ride and Drive Phils., Speed by MP Turbo, SprocketPh.com, TessDrive.com, TimeAttackManila.com, DZMM, Inside Motoring on DZRJ 810 AM, Mellow 94.7, Motoring sa DZME, The Motoring Page on Mellow 94.7 FM, ABS-CBN, Auto Review, Speed Magazine and Wheels & Gears Magazine.
Balancing the two is a difficult task, but CAGI has been refining this process for over a decade. Most recently, with KPMG R.G. Manabat & Co. (KPMG RGM&Co.) as its official tabulator, CAGI’s awards have further been enhanced and made of more value to emanate stronger credibility and prestige.
