Mr. Lucio K. Tan, Jr., President, COO of Tanduay Distillers Inc. Charts “Sustainable” Future of LT Group!

“Our thrust is to participate and develop clean and renewable energy projects for our sustainability...reduce our carbon footprint to underscore our commitment to help mitigate the effects of climate change. I believe this is incumbent upon us as a responsible corporate entity, where we can invest in technologies that will unravel economic opportunities for the group and our employees. Kapitan (Lucio Tan Sr.) made a strategic move to take one step backward in the hope of moving forward, a strategy that teaches us how to realize our future by our sacrifices of today. Next year, Asian Alcohol will begin its biofuel production. Like Absolut Distillers, it will blaze new paths and return to its old glory. I cannot wait to find out how we will fare against the best of the best. Tanduay will grow its assets to compete and be even more relevant in the liquor industry. Macroasia is going full blast with our thrust to address the future of water…our Chairman (Lucio Tan Sr.) has already been building dams to compliment the farmers with their harvest up north. We are now investing more in this valuable liquid. I believe that the world opens up to those who know where they are going,” he said, adding that, “So, let us, as one company, stay focused, and get this dream going towards our goals.” ~Mr. Lucio K. Tan, Jr., President, and Chief Operating Officer, Tanduay Distillers Inc.
Mr. Lucio K. Tan, Jr., President, and Chief Operating Officer, Tanduay Distillers Inc.
Mr. Lucio K. Tan Jr. recalled the hardwork and dedication of his father Lucio C. Tan, who is the man behind the success of the companies under the LT Group, but stressed the need to “deliver the future of the Group.”
Lucio K. Tan Jr. gave a glimpse of the sustainable future that the companies under the Lucio Tan (LT) Group will undertake and emphasized the need to develop clean and renewable energy projects during the company’s recent year-end gathering.

In his customary year-end message, Tan Jr. encouraged his company executives to develop an ability to “go on offensive business mode” to adapt to a changing world advocating technologies that are environmentally-responsible and help ease the impacts of climate change.

The younger Tan revealed the revival of Asian Alcohol Corp. next year. It can be recalled that the operation of the Bacolod-based facility was temporarily suspended eight years ago.

Mr. Lucio K. Tan, Jr., President, and Chief Operating Officer, Tanduay Distillers Inc.
Located in a 10-hectare plant, Asian Alcohol Corp. was the second largest distillery in the Philippines. The plant houses alcohol aging and wastewater treatment facilities, which converts distillery waste into biogas energy for its power requirements. It used to have a daily rated capacity of 210, 000 liters of quality ethyl alcohol.

With this development, Tan Jr. said, Asian Alcohol Corp. is expected to be patterned after the success of Absolut Distillers Inc. in Batangas, which has made more than Php 880M from its bioethanol operations since 2015.

On the other hand, he also revealed, Absolut Distillers has commissioned a six-effect evaporator as part of its continuous improvement and wastewater treatment upgrade. Next year, a pot still distillery will be added to its operation together with a small mill.

For Tanduay Distillers, according to him, this coming year, the company is expected to sell 20 million cases. Part of the growth plans is Tanduay’s more aggressive operations in pursuing the Luzon market and continued exploration of markets outside the country.

He also divulged that one of the companies under the group, Macroasia, will be going into "full blast" next year.

A luxury home perfect for family bonding moments

The play of colors brings life to the indoor play area at Botanika.
They say home is where the heart is—where bonding moments with your family are made memorable and precious time with your children are cherished. This is what the Filigree team, makers of Botanika Nature Residences, a top end low-density residential enclave in Filinvest City, had in mind, anticipating every family’s varying lifestyle needs by providing features and amenities that create enduring ties and bring them closer.

In planning Botanika Nature Residences, a special space has been set aside exclusively for the kids and even for the kids-at-heart. Thus, the kid's play area where children can freely and safely romp around is an essential part of Botanika’s list of amenities, deliberately designed to provide families with a place of recreation right at their doorstep.

An indoor play area, a room based on a modern indoor recreational concept for play and study, is brought to life by the award-winning Isabelle Miaja of the Miaja Design Group. Miaja used vibrant area rugs, hip furnishings, as well as colorful storage solutions for toys. The color palette that would be inviting and attractive for kids was carefully chosen.

The spacious outdoor playground complements Botanika’s indoor play area.
True to its promise of a lush home like no other, the indoor play area is paired with an outdoor playground, revealing the gracious space Botanika provides. Everyone can enjoy the fresh air in the sculptural treehouses nestled in between the luscious gardens of Botanika Nature Residences.

The indoor and outdoor play areas—catering to the needs of children—are only a few of the amenities that are now ready for use and enjoyment at the 13-story Botanika Nature Residences Tower 1. Also operational is a business center, a fully-equipped and productive place to get work done; a library, where residents can quietly sit back and enjoy a literary classic or the latest bestseller; and the crown jewel of Botanika, a tiered pool perfect for family staycations.

All these well-thought-out amenities complete the family experience that starts with each resident’s very own home. From its smallest units with an average space of 125 square meters and it's larger, special units – the Penthouse unit and the Garden unit with an average space of 327 square meters, each family gets to spend a hefty amount of quality time together without the need to find recreation elsewhere.

A home that meets standards of the discriminating few—well-equipped and highly exclusive—this is Botanika Nature Residences. Armed with the commitment of its developer Filigree to provide residents with a safe, luxurious haven, every detail at Botanika is conceived judiciously and with absolute care.

Botanika Nature Residences is the flagship project of Filigree, a real estate brand that offers masterfully-crafted living spaces. Designed by Leandro V. Locsin Partners, its architect of record, and Architecture International, Botanika offers authentic green living in a luxurious enclave nestled in the quietest and exclusive portion of the premier garden central business district in the Metro South, Filinvest City. Kevin Balot’s journey to becoming #StrongerNow

Pantene Philippines expressed their solidarity to the LGBTQ community by releasing a video starring Miss International 2012, and Pantene's first ever transgender ambassador, Kevin Balot. Her #StrongerNow story has touched the lives of millions from across the globe, catching the attention of international personalities like Ellen Pompeo from Grey's Anatomy, Bretman Rock, Justine Bitcoin from America's Next Top Model and well known make up artist, Manny Gutierrez also know as Manny MUA. Together with Pantene Philippines, let us continue to support the LGBTQ community, and fighting for inclusivity in the Philippines, and around the world.

At first glance, Kevin Balot is the epitome of grace, elegance, and beauty. As the Philippines’ first transgender Miss International Queen, the serenity in her face, her bright smile and air of confidence, effectively masks the pain she had endured growing up and the journey she faced that made her #StrongerNow.

Throughout childhood, Kevin experienced exclusion within her very own family. Her father criticized her for wearing make-up, attending beauty contests, and behaving in a feminine way. As a kid, she would look at herself in the mirror and would feel confused. Instead of buckling under the weight of these pains, Kevin has chosen instead to grow from these.

Today, she stars in Pantene Philippines’ heart-stirring #StrongerNow short film, as the first ever transgender to be a hair-care ambassador in the country, with a goal to inspire more Filipinas to celebrate every scar, every sweat, every struggle that made them the kind of strong they are now.

The video, launched during the global observation of Transgender Awareness Week, shows Pantene Philippines’ solidarity with the LGBTQ community. Kevin’s story resonated with audiences around the world, as it went viral gaining over 4 million organic views last weekend and was shared by half-Filipina and America’s Next Top Model finalist Justine Biticon, Grey’s Anatomy actress Ellen Pompeo, YouTube and beauty content creator, Manuel Gutierrez, also known as Manny MUA and Bretman Rock, among others. Following the Twitter conversations are different international publications sharing the video, recognizing Kevin’s story and celebrating #StrongerNow.

Kevin herself has found people who embraced her for what she was. Even if her family did not accept her at first, her friends and classmates accepted her with open arms. She has also fought to be where she is today. After graduating from high school, she left home and supported herself by joining beauty pageants near and far almost everyday, traveling all the way to Pangasinan from Tarlac, where she lived.

She had already won numerous pageants when she was called to join Miss International Queen. Others had doubted her, saying she was not international beauty queen material or that she was too short to compete. Despite their doubts, Kevin won Miss International Queen.
It was a momentous event in her life, her dream finally fulfilled and even more importantly, one of the prizes was the major operation that would change her life. She went to Thailand and had a sex change. When she finally saw her new body in the mirror, she said  “Eto na talaga ‘yong laman ng utak and ng heart ko.”
Kevin’s story shows how pain can be transformed into something greater, and how strength and resilience allows one’s inner beauty to shine brighter.
This holiday season, the film serves as a message of hope to those dealing with pain, celebrates those who have triumphed over their internal struggles and encourages LGBTQ members to be #StrongerNow.

Join Pantene in supporting the LGBTQ community and in fighting for inclusivity around the country. Watch the video and be inspired to be yourself, to grow and be #StrongerNow. Visit Pantene's Facebook page.

Global industry experts headline MICECON 2018 in Bacolod

Global industry experts of varying backgrounds and expertise are flying to the country for MICECON 2018, to be held in the ‘Sugar Bowl of the Philippines’, Bacolod City, on 27-29 November 2018, at the SMX Convention Center.

Organized by the Tourism Promotions Board (TBP), the marketing arm of the Department of Tourism (DOT), the MICE Conference or MICECON is the biggest industry gathering of its kind and is a highly anticipated educational event for travel and tourism practitioners.

For MICECON 2018, the TPB has gathered an impressive roster of local and international speakers, namely: Susan Sarfati, founding CEO of The Center for Association Leadership and Executive Vice President of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE); Liz Jackson, vice president of Association Management Group and president of Associated Luxury Hotels; Peng Ee, of the Global Commerce Business unit of TTG Asia Media; and Jerry Sibal, founder of Jerry Sibal Design and a world-renowned event designer and florist.

Apart from being named one of the 25 most influential people in the meetings industry by Meeting News, Sarfati’s achievements include Non-profit Times Executive of the Year, the Spirit of Hospitality Award, as well as over 2 decades of experience in creating high-performance individuals, teams and organizations.

Jackson has been involved in the association community of Washington, DC for 30 years, taking on executive career roles and as a member of several professional association boards of directors. Some of the awards she has received include Meeting Professionals International Member of the Year, Greater Washington Society of Association Executives’ Board Member Award, and American Society of Association Executives Fellow selection for leadership.

Peng Ee has extensive experience in exhibitions and events, and was recently appointed to transform the Global Business Unit of TTG Asia Media, organizer of the IT&CMA, the leading international MICE event centered in the Asia Pacific, as well as the TTG’s MICE show in China, which saw the largest Philippine contingent in its history.

For more than 25 years, Sibal has built a name for himself as a leading event designer and floral artist, creating magical settings for both private parties and corporate events. Last May, he produced the first-ever Philippine Tourism Expo, in partnership with the DOT and TBP, a four-day event held at the Vanderbilt Hall, New York Grand Central Terminal.

MICE is a major contributor to the growth of Philippine tourism, and MICECON 2018 aims to establish the Philippines’ standing as the preferred destination for meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions as outlined in the MICE Roadmap 2030, which targets to increase revenues derived from the MICE industry to some P25 billion by growing annual MICE arrivals to 3 percent, and increasing the total usable space for exhibitions to over 170,895 square meters.

Aside from the learnings derived from the engaging talks, the MICECON 2018 program also includes networking opportunities during themed social functions. It likewise aims to showcase what Bacolod City has to offer as a MICE venue, while further upgrading its capabilities in targeting and handling the MICE market.

LifeScience Institute highlights Functional Medicine, a revolutionary approach to healthcare

“This is the beginning of the next era of Functional and Lifestyle Medicine changing this part of the world.” ~Dr. Kristi Hughes, pioneer in the field of Functional Medicine
Dr. Robert Luby, IFM Executive Director of Medical Education discusses the global non-communicable diseases epidemic and how FM can help manage health to fight 21st century diseases.
LifeScience Institute successfully brought to the fore the role of Functional Medicine in addressing complex chronic and noncommunicable diseases in a recently concluded conference held at the Enderun Colleges in Taguig City.

The Advancing Functional Medicine (AFM) conference, which was the first of its kind in the Southeast Asian region, was in collaboration with the Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM).

According to the World Health Organization, eight out of 10 deaths in the region were caused by NCDs such as chronic respiratory diseases, cancers, and cardiovascular diseases. Leaders from the Pacific have declared these a health and economic crisis and a threat to human development. In response to the NCD epidemic in the Pacific, LSI brought together IFM’s esteemed faculty to discuss Functional Medicine and its role in addressing chronic NCDs.

Hundreds of delegates from the United States, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, India, Singapore, and the Philippines attended the two-day conference. The speakers at the event included IFM faculty members Dr. Lisa Portera-Perry and Dr. Michael Stone, and IFM Executive Director of Medical Education Dr. Robert Luby.

Dr. Lisa Portera-Perry engaging with delegates during the AFM Conference
Through its theme “Uncovering the Interconnections Between Inflammation, the Gastrointestinal Tract, and Toxic Exposure”, the conference emphasized how Functional Medicine presents a new perspective in dealing with an individual’s well-being by determining how and why illnesses occur instead of simply addressing the symptoms caused by chronic disease.

The conference also introduced different ways to unravel the interconnections of symptoms, lifestyle factors and diagnosis of a patient’s disease or chronic condition.

To continue LSI’s thrust of purveying Functional Medicine, LSI will be holding the Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice (AFMCP) Conference on May 7-11, 2019. Participants of the conference have already shown interest in the upcoming AFMCP by signing up for the event right after AFM.

For more information on the recently concluded AFM and for inquiries about the upcoming AFMCP, you may contact LSI at (0917) 829 7075 or visit www.lsi-sea.org.

Belle de Jour (BDJ) Power Planner encourages Filipinas to believe in the Magic of Dreams

“We believe that through their stories, we can spark change and start conversations on dreams among young women, and Filipino youth in general.” ~Darlyn Ty-Nilo

Viviamo! Inc., the company behind Belle de Jour Power Planner, reinforces the importance of having a dream in its campaign called “Magic of Dreams.” For the past 13 years, BDJ planners have been constant companions to young Filipinas―coaching and cheering on them to be their best selves and reach for their dreams. All year round the company provides content and events that equip Filipinas with knowledge, confidence, and self-appreciation through topics covering lifestyle, career, beauty, and fashion as well as social issues affecting women today. Through the years, BDJ has evolved into a community for ordinary women who share their stories and inspire other women in a positive, accepting environment.

Alessa Lanot
Launched this month, the Magic of Dreams campaign is geared towards inspiring the Filipino youth to dream again and chase after them. This came into existence when BDJ founder and president Darlyn Ty-Nilo came across a study by volunteer-based organization Dream Project PH, headed by its main founder Prim Paypon. The study was done among the Filipino youth, which has concluded that 7 out of 10 Filipino teenagers don’t have a dream. It covered 614 Filipino teenagers of every socioeconomic class across the country. The question they were given: “Do you have a dream in life?” While many would assume that poverty is the main reason for this, it turns out that the most common reason for this is discouraging words from others, followed by the lack of self-esteem, lack of passion, lack of opportunity, and lastly, poverty*. This was the result of a carefully executed study and a painful reality that BDJ wants to do something about.

Ginger Arboleda
Given the company’s mission for more than a decade to help Filipinos live to the fullest, BDJ drew a list of successful women who can inspire younger Filipinas to have dreams and work towards achieving them. They sat down with and interviewed these successful bunch from various fields to talk about their dreams.

Arianne David
Apart from these efforts, the launch of the Magic of Dreams campaign has become a platform for the company to reach out to more Filipinas. And starting this week, BDJ has released its first batch of inspiring short videos in hopes that young Filipinas who were discouraged and hopeless will once again believe in the Magic of their Dreams. You can check out the videos on Belle de Jour Power Planner’s official Facebook and Instagram pages @bdjbuzz.

Abbie Victorino
The Magic of Dreams campaign was made possible by its production partners After Six Club and Creative Style Group; official venue partner ACE Hotel and Suites; and brand partners Celeteque, Parisian, Revlon, Wacoal, and Zenutrients.

4 Hacks to Stay Healthy and Fit during Christmas

More time to eat and enjoy the holidays, while staying healthy and fit. The holiday season is just around the corner, and that means stuffing our faces with all the guilty pleasures served to us in giant servings.  Let’s face it, Christmas is the season for eating—and maybe a bit of booze.

Still, it’s important to remember the reason for the season and of course, taking care of yourself throughout so you can live more and do more out of your day.

No need to wait for the new year to make a resolution. Below are some things to keep in mind while celebrating this Christmas so you can fit and healthy during the festivity.

Know your Alcohol Limit
Christmas parties are all about celebration and memories but, make sure you’re sane enough to recall these things. Drinking moderately allows you not only to live in the moment but also to be kind to your body.

There’s no need to abuse yourself with the alcohol. As they say, “May bukas pa!” so, knowing when to call it a night will surely have your head filled with grateful thoughts in the morning.

Drink Your Water
Drinking water before, during, and after a night out will help keep your body hydrated. Contrary to popular belief, urinating while out should be an honor, not a hassle. It means that whatever toxins that might be lurking in your body are being flushed out.

While hydration, in general, is important, keeping your H2O intake high will help your brain stay alert, wash down as much alcohol as it can, and save you from that terrible hangover when you wake up.

Sweat It Out
Reaching the end of the year shouldn’t mean reaching the end of your exercise! Stay active as much as you can. Walk your dog, run with friends, or take your strong independent self to the gym.

It’s important to keep moving throughout the festivities. The food, drinks, and long nights may cause bloating. Your bed might tempt you to stay in the morning after, but a study at the University of Georgia says that staying active can boost your energy levels by 65%. Definitely, a better way to enjoy your holidays!

Eat Often, but in Small Amounts
Don’t panic! We’re not saying to only eat one piece of lechon every 2 hours. All we mean is to not fill your plate to the brim in one sitting. Pacing yourself when you eat is a way to help your digestive system process the food you eat.

If you overwhelm your stomach in one go, you’ll feel bloated and your energy level will hit a scary low. Eating in smaller amounts will not only stabilize your energy, but it’ll also control your sugar level and fatty acids in your blood.  It’s okay to wait a little bit for your second round. There’ll still be food left… We hope.

Since Christmas is mostly the time for family and friends, being present and energized is key. Keeping your stomach filled with the right kinds of food and drinks can get tricky, but when all else fails, Santé Pure Barley Canister can keep you healthy through the crazy celebrations. It contains vitamins, minerals, chlorophyll, and carotenoids. Now you can get all the goodness that multi-nutrient, chlorophyll-rich food has to offer while indulging yourself with the foods you love this season.

So, the only question left now is: Which Christmas party do we go to first?

Ganador promotes responsible pet ownership

“I have always loved dogs and, it hurts me whenever I see so many of them tied up or caged the whole day. I also get stories about abandoned animals that cause problems in the community. The data on animal bites have not decreased as much, leading to more animals, dogs, in particular, being harmed and abandoned. I’m glad that every year more and more people are showing their interest and intent of participating in making the change happen.” ~Charisse Abalos-Vargas, Mandaluyong City Councilor and founder of “Pet Ko, Luv Ko”

Ganador Premium high-quality dog food recently supported the “Pet Ko, Luv Ko” project of the local government of Mandaluyong City at the A.T. Reyes Garden, City Hall, Compound. The “Pet Ko, Luv Ko” project is a bi-annual event, slated every February and September. Aside from Councilor Vargas, the project is also headed by the Mandaluyong Pack Leaders and the City Veterinary and Philippine Birth Control Center.
“Projects like the “Pet Ko, Luv Ko” is close to our hearts, especially since our brand is founded on values that strengthen, deepen, and encourage the bond with products that guarantee wellness and health for every dog. At Ganador, we believe that the quality of food that we provide to our pets is one way we can promote responsible FURenthood.” ~Johanna Emata, Marketing Manager, Ganador Philippines
The project was implemented by Mandaluyong City in a bid to promote responsible pet ownership among its constituents.
